Topwater bass
Hey guys, I tried a topwater frog tonight and i did get some hits. The big bass seemed to just suck and kinda jump at it. And other bass would just jump out of the water at it but i couldnt get a good hook set. I tried to drop it then set the hook if one hit it but that didnt work either. Also i tried a texas rig with a couple different types of jerk bait but all that did was get nibbles. Does anyone have a good way of catching these bass?? Remember im in thick weeds just off the bank and the bass are sluggish. Thanks for your help

When fishing frogs it takes some patience to get a good hookset. Till a person learns when to set the hook on a frog I recommend a quick count of three and then NAIL them. Make sure you are using the appropiate size hook for the frog you are using.

I agree with the bigger hooks, also a good stiff rod and some heavy braided line will help you hook up more. Make sure to wait til you feel the fish on, not see the fish strike.

you should have tried some suspending jerkbaits or put a short strike trailer on your lure. the short strike trailer is some haevy line tied to a small, maybe #1 straight shank hook.you tie the hook on the line and then thread the line with a needle up through the plastic and tie at the main hook. then imbed the small hook into the tail of plastic worm and WALLA!

old school
Go old school on them with a cream scoundrel floating worm and a big hook. No weight and some braided line. I like bubble gum the best. Remember real men do not use pink lures only bubble gum or shrimp colored lures..

be patient, you need feel the bass, not just see the bass, then set your hook.
