Garlic and salt will soak in plastics, but its impossible to get it to keep if you have it in your tacklebox for extended periods of time..it spoils

Generally speaking, if you just dump salt in with your worms it will be fine.
Motor oil and gas are the worse scent you can have , the fish hate it..

Default Try this...

What I will often do is take some baits that I like to use that are unscented and put them in the same bag as some other similarly colored baits that come scented already. You would be surprised how quickly and effectively the scent impregnates itself into your baits from the pre-scented baits.

I've even done this with hard baits like cranks and pop-r's. But be careful that you do this in cool temperatures or you will have a sticky mess.

I've never actually mixed or made a scent concauction of sorts, but I would imagine garlic would be the key ingredient. Seems to me garlic has outlived the other scents, with shad oil a close second. Manufacturer fishing scents tend to be garlic with a whole bunch of proteins and fish amino acids thrown in. You can't buy that stuff at Safeway. Have fun on your quest for a homemade scent and let us know if you hit the jackpot.

I realize that making your own can be fun, but it's a major hassle, and a Bottle of Yum, Bang, or other scents just aren't that exspensive. I have too little time to fish, and get gear re-organized(like 5-6 times before I go fishing LOL) that it's not worth the time to me. But if you want to do it, PM Sluggo Man, he had a pretty good recipe that he's been using. The other issue, is that I won't use any spray scents while fishing from someone else's boat. I've seen the aftermath of what a spill can do, accidental or not, and I won't do that to someone else's boat. My boat no problem, but when fishing on someone else's you gotta respect their boat, and treat it like it was straight off the showroom floor, even if it's a trash can LOL. I have had 3 boaters complain about guys spilling, overspraying, staining their carpets, and of course never even saying a word about it. That's the kinda stuff that really makes me mad. RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND TEHIR PROERTY, is my #1 thing when riding on someone else's boat. I just use scented/salted baits. Now I do think they help some, but it's a little handicap I will deal with for the opportunity to fish from someone else's boat.

Default scent

1. Start with two cups hot tapwater
2. Add two rounded tablespoons garlic powder
3. Add one rounded tablespoon of salt
4...Stir well
5 Pour some of this mixture into each baggie of lures and re-seal...
6. Mush the baits in the baggies around a bit and then float them on a pail of hot tapwater for 20 minutes....
7. After draining off the excess liquid from each baggie..you are good to go.
