Do not try use a cheap replacement switch if it is mounted in the shifter. Use an original part if possible if in the shifter.
My Gambler had one in the shifter , one in the trolling motor plug area, one on the rear cable area, one on the motor and a double button setup on the floor next to the hotfoot peddle. Capt Mike

Most of the trim switches have a connector attached. Trying to jury-rig one would not be something I would do. It may work, but I would buy a replacement meant for your motor. YES, it's more expensive - but you get what you pay for, and it's a simple mount and plug in - only takes a few minutes and you are done. I replaced the trim switch on the motor last summer on my Yamaha and it was simple.

all my trim is. is a toggle switch...there is no trim on the motor itself i just have a toggle switch at the back of the boat. SO should i buy a regular toggle switch or a trim specific toggle switch. The reason I ask is because I also want to have a trim switch up at the front of the boat so i can control it up there. So what do yall suggest. a few dollars a piece on a regular toggle switch or 25 dollars a piece for a specific switch that is made for trim?

You can get those switches at Ace hardware.Just be sure to get those small rubber caps for the knobs and silicone the S*** out of the back of the switch after you wire it up.

tilt/trim -was the forrunner of the common trim we are used to-.. i belive tilt/trim appeared in the late 60's..i have it on my 71 johnson..it would lift the moter on the trailer or in the lake as long as you did not push the throttle lever past 1/2 way..at this point the moter would act just like it did not have a lift set up and fall down to the vertical setting..the idea being to speed up the hole shot.a another darrius allison inventon... zooker

Help me out. Why is there a need for a trim switch in the bow of the boat at the Tm area? You would not need to trim the motor while using the TM. Would you? Am I missing something? [beside common sense for wanting to pour money into a hole in the water]

the switch in the bow area near the troller plug in.. makes perfect sense.. if your fishing down a bank and get hung up in a tree. you go in after the bait your big moter will hit causing some damage to the skeg/lower unit.. ya trim it up the moter and go in after the lure...

Got mine at Napa auto parts . It is worth the extra change to get the one that is waterproof ( rubber boot ) I replaced the one on the motor about 5 years ago , still kicken - no problems ......Make sure to get the self centering switch ...haha.... the sales lady gave me the standard togel switch , good thing I checked it before I left the store .

Zooker and Boater: Thanks for the enlightening. Being that I have yet to put my boat in the water and start bass fishing, I have a lot to learn. Sure is a big bass fishing world you have. Can't wait to do my first cast and hook-up, hopefully it will a nice bass and not the bottom.
