				 | Brutal day on the water

The steam poured off my latte as I prepped for the morning. The brisk 50 degree weather chilled my sandaled feet. I cursed the over cast sky knowing that it would be at least an hour before I could strip down to my t-shirt. I made my way to the edge of the 62 degree water, knowing that the fish would be lethargic and I would need to fish slow……. Okay, just a little humor for my Northern Friends…..Yes, I am an Ass…..LOL

Hmmm.. we are expecting a high of 35ish, with 1-3" of snow this afternoon and then another 1" tonight with another 1-3" tomorrow. I'm going to love my 58 mile drive home from work today and that 58 mile drive tomorrow morning! Oh, and most all of our water in mid Michigan has a nice sheet of ice on it. Thanks.

It is all good. I would not have posted it if I didn't expect some creative retaliation.

You wouldn't like it Bender. I had to cut the grass and clean the pool yesterday after spending the morning fishing. It was non stop until I had dinner on the patio.

No worries Mont. It was very deliberate of me to speak of brisk winds and lattes and it was meant to live up to the Cali stero types and bring laughter from some and birds from others....LOL

How do all of the wildfires and mudslides affect your fishing? At least with the snow here it is not catastrophic. My wife has phone interviews coming up at Auburn University and The University of Texas-Pan American near Falcon Lake. I've never been to either of those areas but they sure both sound pretty good right now as I look out my window at the half frozen lake and snow falling.

Both the wild fires and then mudslides do impact the fishing. We have had two catasrophic wildfires in the past 7 years. Both occured in October and both had an impact on the next year's spawn. Additionally, the fires closed several of our lakes for 6 months because all of the terain around them was gone. The mudslides down in San Diego are few and far between, but they impact the fishing greatly when they happen. Most of our fishing spots are man made resevoirs so they were built in the valleys. Due to the slope of the surrounding areas, this causes issues after the fires when the rains do come.

Cassidy, when is your state forestry agency gonna realize that prescribed fire would solve all that catastrophic nonsense? Has there been any discussions about that?

Mont, They have conducted controlled burns. The main issue is that these fires start in the national forrests during wind storms. We get Santa Anna winds which come east off of the desert. These winds will sometimes blow at 25 to 30 miles an hour for a day or two. The dried shrubs and such (We only see a couple of days of rain from spring until the next winter). Once the falling embers reach the residential areas, it is too late.
