				 | Straight Razor - bad idea?

I have lately been considering a Straight Razor - bad idea? WHY? Because I don't get a decent close shave out of anything. The reason may be I'm 1/8 American Indian and have slow growing beard. I had over the years: 3 different Norelco's the last one made in China 8( 2 different Remington's The first one, had blades there were like a row staples. The other one was an Rotary Design. 1 Panasonic 2 Wahl's - very close red shave; on the bright side blades and head are cheap to replace. 1 Braun Single blade or double razors seams to give me a good wet shave. I don't like 3 or more blades, they cost too much and don't seam to be any better. My Single-Blade is the old Gillette Safety Razor. |

lol i can see this happening already........you use a straight razor and cut yourself, in the hospital you tell the doctor and nurses that the guys on your fishing website told you that it was a good idea. seriously i can't give you an opinion on a straight razor, the only experience i had with one of those was at a barber shop once when the barber used one on the back of my neck. and boy the hot foam and warm towel felt great.

Have you tried that "Lectric Shave" (sp?) stuff you put on first? It seems to help a little. I use that and a Braun (expensive but lasts forever) most of the time and it works pretty well. You aren't kidding though, the price of razor heads like Mach3 and such are crazy! Here's a tip that I have not tried that was posted on BBC: "Ok this is not a fishing tip but a money saving tip none the less. I use expensive razor blades the Mach 3 blades. Darn things are expensive haha. Anyway, if you want to make 1 blade last 6-8 months or close to it. Yep 1 blade can last that long. All you have to do is blow dry the blade once you have finished using it. Clean it the same way by running it under water just blow dry it dry before setting it back into it's carriage. Water is what makes them get dull not our beard hair. Small rust develops on the edge making them get dull. I am using the same blade since Septemeber and it is still very sharp and doesn't cut me. Another way to make them last is to dip them in alcohol to wick away the water. Alcohol will dry and not rust them. So perhaps some of you that are blow dryer challenged can use some old aftershave or rubbing alcohol. Now take that Gillette and shove your high priced razor blades you know where " |

Stay away from the straight razor. You'd do just as well with a very sharp buck knife. just my opinion there. But you'll do just as well with a cheap throw away and a lot less likely to nick a artery. I used one for awhile and they are a pain. But as mentioned before try the lectra-shave pre-shave lotion before you chunk the electric shavers. It helps immencly.

I have the latest Norelco arcitec $160.00 I thought boy this razor will be the bomb...and it is better than the cheaper models, but I thought it would give a better shave. It knows when it needs cleaned and charged, you can lock the on/off button. It can't keep your kids from using it to shave their dolls and make punk rockers out of them... I have never tried the "lectric shave stuff" maybe I will now.

Bama, I have to look in the mirror every morning just to jumpstart this face so I know ugly. I hate shaving, but I use a Norelco about 3 times a week. If you use a straight razor, do it yourself-don't let your better half do it

I hate to admit it, but I'm just plain too lazy to keep a clean shaved face. Had a boss once that kept a razor and cream in his desk drawer just for me. Company policy: Either no beard, or well trimmed beard-NO IN BETWEENS!! ) And I had to wear beard guards if I grew one, hated those things. Had my hands on my face straightening it out more than if they'd of just left me alone. hehehe
