For the crankbait masters

What kind of line do you use?
1-mono, flouro or braid
2-berkley, triline or others
I was using Yozuri, a flouro hybird and lost some fish, but not any baits a good thing. I don't think there is any stretch and it is very hard to break, therefore I begining to believe the hookups weren't great. Any thoughts on this?

i just got a new crankin rig,and just this year im gonna get serious.so im no expert my any means.

Line test ---> depends on where, what and how I want to peresent the crankbait, it may be anywhere from 6 lb to 20 pound test.

Line type ---> nylon

Line brand ---> Trilene Big Game, Trilene XT or Trilene XL.

Whatevers in the bargin bin. Actually I just got 10 lb Yo Zuri hybrid and 12 lb P-Line floroclear.I would like to think it wasn't the lines fault for you losing fish but I am only guessing here. P N J

i suggest whatever mono you have confidence in. i personally love p-line as far as mono is concerned (their flourocarbon is another story though). i just don't really like flourocarbon on crankbaits, you will gain a little in diving depth but the lack of stretch can cost you some fish.......especially when they see the boat and make one last hard run. at least this is my opinion.

For deep diving crankbaits I spool my baitcaster with 30 lb Sufix Performance Braid and a 3-4 ft 12 lb test mono leader.

For shallow crankbaits, I use a spinning setup spooled with 10 lb Power Pro Braid and a 8 lb mono 3-4 ft leader.

sufix is a very good handling line, it cast better than any other line i have ever used. but it doesn't seem to have the breaking strenght of other brands in the same lb test, or at least that is how it seems to me.

What is the action of your rod? I prefer mono with 10# as my general purpose line.

I have used fc line and it works great too. Yozuri, being a copolymer should be a fair choice.

P-Line Floroclear. Lancer6 turned me on to it a couple years back. Mono coated with fluorocarbon-the best of both worlds. Tough like fluoro but extremely limp like Trilene XL. The only thing I use mono for anymore is topwater. For that I use Trilene Maxx.

I use suffix seige and have never broke off a fish..I use it when hybrid fishing and them boys can break some line.

I have three rods I use just for cranks baits. All three are for different applications, and season. For early and late cranking I use mono, 14 to 20 pound. The larger is alright to use when your not that concerned about running deep. For summer fishing, I use 10 pound flouro, the low diameter and its sinking affect help cranks get alittle deeper than using mono with same crankbait. I don't suggest using braid or a super line because there is zero stretch. With mono and flouro the line gives and stretches absorbing when a bass strikes a crank and when it jumps out of the water with a crank in its mouth. If the line didn't stretch, the strike to land ratio would be very low. I have read an article about people using braid with cranks, square bills and lipless, it just doesn't fit my style of fishing. Plus I don't think I could get the distance while casting big cranks to run really deep. I always use berkley line, no matter what Im throwing. Good fishin !

Fishin' Fool, I beg to differ. I use 30 lb Sufix Performance Braid with a 12 lb mono leader, and I can cast my deep diving cranks a mile as there is less friction of the braid going through the guides then with any other type of line. I have no trouble working my cranks on the bottom in 12-14 FOW Past that I go with A C-rig, or a 1/2-1 oz jig.

flourocarbon will not stretch hardly at all, very little if any. this is why i like mono for crankbaits.

C-rig that is my thinking on the Yo zuri line I was using, tough and no stretch but very cheap. I think its a good line, I'm just sure about using it for crankin.

Joel- I'll have to give the braid a try for my deep cranks. With the thin diameter you can get them down another 1-3 feet.

C-Rig- Compared to braid flouro will stretch more, but your right, hardly at all. Thats why I like it on my finesse rods. I use flouro on my deep cranks because it sinks. Good fishin'

Fluorocarbon stretches almost as much as nylon, the flouro = no stretch is a myth.
