				 | What are your fish catching percentages in relation to lures you used this season?

I decided to do a little research on what lures have been most effective in catching fish so far this season for my daughter and me. Our results are as follows: Total # of fishing outings: 9 Total # of fish caught: 35 (All from the shore) Lure/Technique Used this season - Quantity of Fish Caught – Percentage Jig and Trailer - 1 – 3% (eg, the jig and trailer caught only one bass so far, which accounts for 3% of the fish we caught) Crankbait - 3 - 8.5% Spinnerbait/Inline Spinner – 0 – 0 Hard Jerk/Slash Bait – 0 – 0 Popper– 0 – 0 Drop Shot – 31 – 88.5% We believe that we gave all of these techniques a fair shake, but who is to say? We all know the feeling when using techniques that aren’t working; we tend to switch to our comfort/confidence techniques to get ourselves some positive results. Granted, I love to use the drop-shot technique because of its effectiveness. So was the drop shot that effective or have I been too dependent on it? On the other side of the coin, the fish have been telling me what they were willing to strike. I don’t think I can force them to take a jig or a spinnerbait because I want to catch them with it. What lures have been most productive for you this season and are they the lures that inspire confidence in you? That too would be an interesting tidbit to uncover. Perhaps the lures or techniques we find our most productive are the ones we use the most. One of the reasons I am tracking this is to see what lures and techniques I might also need to invest some time with. -ib

I dont keep records of the fish I've caught, but this year has been kind of a funny year for me. Normally, there is one or two lures and techniques that outshine all the others. And this changes from year to year usually. Some years the topwater bite is the go to bait. Spinnerbaits or cranks on other years. But this year, it's been pretty much an even split across the board. Yesterday I caught 15 bass including a 6 pounder. I caught the fish on several lures used throughout the day. Spinnerbait, t rigged craw, surface bait, swimbait, and t rigged frog all caught fish yesterday. In the end, the spinnerbait caught more than the others, but each lure caught it's fair share. It all just depended on which lure worked best for that particular situation.

about 90% of the fish I have caught this summer have come off a fluke and the rest have been split between a spinner or assorted soft plastics Jim

It's hard to say because I'd have to look through a lot of entries in my logging stuff. Definitely the highest rate of quality fish have come on a swimbait or spook so far this year, but i've only caught like 15-20 on each. I'd say the second highest percent of quality fish was caught on a Series 5 crankbait or a lipless crankbait, but that's a different story because I've caught a couple hundred on it so far. not bad for shore fishing lakes since late march. 93 outings 493 bass |

majority of fish caught on t-rigged senkos, and spooks. been catching quite a few as of late on drop shot. random catches on shallow divers, frogs, pop-rs, and a few crank baits.

I can't remember the number of times I have been out but I would say the majority of my catches would be- 90% horny toad, spinnerbait, sexy shad lipless 10% swim bait, worms, buzzbait, a few others

minus equipment failures and now that i use the right hooks - on just about every hit i get, i get a fish in my hand with a t rig. Braided line does sooo well for hooksets. My biggest prob now is gut hooks.

I've caught about 15 bass so far this year; 11 deep crankin, 2 with a T-rigged worm, and 2 on topwater.

No SBK...I need to be 16 and have no responsibilities. A 40 year old who fishes every day is either a pro, lives right next to a lake, or is a total loser who neglects his family and job. I'm none of those guys. I live in a nice house, and can afford a nice boat. I want to keep it that way.

Haha....I'd have to add my main reason I don't fish more is Patoka is 75 miles from me. Take a look at Evansville, IN on the map. We are totally surrounded by great fishing lakes (Patoka, Kentucky Lake, Brookville, West Boggs, Rend, Crab Orchard, Broshears, list goes on and on) ...but nothing close by! There are a couple of pits close by (and they are not accessable from the bank), but they have an "idle speed" restriction on them, and an 18-incher is an absolute rarity. A lot of the fun for me is the possibility that I'll catch a hawg, so I don't go there much. That being said, I do fish every weekend. I've only missed one Saturday since I bought my boat, and that was because some woman wrecked into me on the expressway, and my truck was in the body shop. Those ^@#%^@'s wouldn't even rent me a tow-vehicle. I got stuck with a frigging Altima. If I could just get Bama to adopt me....I could eat biscuits and gravy every morning, and fish all afternoon.

I haven't kept an exact count of my fish this year. As I sit and guess-timate, I'd say I've caught somewhere around 20-25. Yeah, I know, I know...I need to get out more if I want to compete with WTL's 621,263,897 he's caught so far this year. 8-10 were on frogs, such as Rage Tails, Horny Toads, etc. 3 or so on jigs 4 on spinnerbaits The rest were caught on various t-rigged plastics, mainly creature baits.

Most of mine were caught cranking shallow, medium, and deep divers, but my quality fish were caught working the jig and creature baits. ~Mark |
