				 | Daiwa Exceler Spinning reel, Cardinal 500 ALBi, or other?

Looking to buy a new spinning reel in the next year or so, and don't wanna spend to much, but I do how ever want quality (for the money)! And right now I'm looking at Daiwa Exceler, and Abu Garcia Cardinal. Which is over all better? Easy Bail flipping, smooth, casting distance, etc. If you've used other reels in this price range and liked them, please feel free to suggest. Thanks!

Never used the Cardinal, and I'm not really sure I'd recommend the Exceler. Had an Exceler last year and loved it at first. Then the bail got temperamental. 1 in every 5 casts or so, the bail wouldn't flip back over. Pretty big problem when you want to keep a bait on top. Could be a common thing with them, or maybe more of an isolated incident.

bassboss, you already know what I'd recommend. Pflueger Supreme spinning reels are great, and you can't even come close to them with anything else for $100 and probably up to $150. BB

I have a Exceler 2000 that I like so far, haven't used it enough to give it a ringing endorsement though.

Yep. I think from here on out, the Supreme will be the only spinning reel I use. I love mine

Yeah, I think that if I can find one from a good price on e-bay, but, as of now, that's a little to expensive! So I'm looking at cheaper reels now!

Two other reels that are in this class that are nice are the Shimano sedona and the pflueger president. I personally like the Pflueger.

Shimano Sedona would be my choice for that price range.

I don't know about this year's models since Shimano has been incorporating some better features into their lower end reels, but I didn't care for last year's Sahara (same price as this year's Sedona I believe). That what I get for not listening to the guys here and going with the Symetre. BB

I understand. I usually love the shimano products but, honestly, I have been using the BPS Johnny Morris gold and silver reels for a while now and I love them. I have one of the JM Spinning reels as well as a few of the BC reels. They are so smooth and nothing moves or jiggles around (very solid). I just wish they were a bit lighter. But for the price range he mentioned, I have a hard time not using a shimano if for nothing but the reliability.

I currently own an Exceler and after a year of abuse, it is still holding up well. Like the above poster said they bail occasionally has a problem. You might want to see how Ebay treats you. I just got an Advantage A for less than the cost of an Exceler. The Tierra also goes for much better prices on their.

I have a Shimano Sahara bought about 3 years ago....its gotten alot of use without any issues. One note about bails though, I hear alot of complaints about bails not tripping, being hard to trip etc....I've gotten into the habit of closing the bail with my free hand and thus never have to worry about this issue....might seem a little odd at first but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.

Bassboss, take a look at the Pfluger President. It is a smooth reel and is in your price range.
