Jackplate
Trying to loosen the bolts to my jackplate and found one that was stuck. Tried a bunch of things to free it but nothing worked. Took it into the shop last night and mechanic heated the bolt and finally got it moving
 but then busted it off in the aluminum block  . He spent over an hour trying to remove the busted bolt from the block. Any thoughts or tricks about getting the busted bolt out??? He tried tapping it, heating it, welded a nut to it, etc and nothing. |

only thing now is drill out and retap.with larger bolt and install with anti seize grease when but it back in. use stain steel bolts regular bolts will oxiduze in alumin after while its like they become one as you found out. u

Stainless steel and aluminum are dissimiliar metals and will also oxidize. S.S. Is much more corrosion resistant than regular steel but you should still remove the bolt and recoat it with Neverseize. We have a saying in the yacht business,
" stainless steel isn't." hope you get your problem taken care of. |
