My bro in law bought a shopsmith a few days ago he had found on Craigs list. I always wanted one since I first saw those info-mercials on Sat. afternoons as a kid. Went and played with the lathe this afternoon. SO I give to you the very first thing I have ever turned on a lathe... Give a man a chair and he'll do nothing but sit. Give a man a wood working tool and he'll make something to beat you with and take YOUR chair..

Nice. Now all you need to do is use the drill press attachment to hollow out the end so you can fill it with lead.

Stick, the very first thing I ever turned on a lathe was a club too. My shop teacher said "hey...isn't that bat a little short?" We definitely are thinking along the same lines.

Ive got an illegal loaded cricket type bat, from around 1900,can dent in a steel garbage can and be no worse for wear.At one time kept it under the car seat. Hmm now that it was brought up going to have to relocate it somewhere in the garage I think. |

Nice work! I can't wait to see your new rod rack that I'm assuming is probably in the planning stages already.

It's deffinatly on the list Joe! lol Bama, this is the Mark 5 anniversery edition. Main thing I learned about the lathe is everything had to be locked tight, tools sharp, and go slow. Ya can't lay into it to hurry the rounding of the wood.

Have no idea what they are, but I was playing with the lathe today. How bout some suggetions. So far I have totem pole and... well... the shorter one was called a plug for a spot that would be quite painful.

here is a project for ya. It's a line stripper. Just put a little taper on it. You might make the back lip wider, sometimes the line slips off of mine. sand it and then burnish it with wax for a slick finish. I tried it with a little slot for the line, but that didn't work so i just have a piece of tape stuck on it to hold the line until it gets a few wraps, then you can go high speed and when you are done, all the line slides off in a tight wrap.
