Default Tough decision, and the tough day will come tomorrow.

I have to relocate to Vancouver due to a job offer. I like Vancouver, Everything is going well, except MY CATs! I have two cats, we have sticked together 3 years. But this time we will drive to Vancouver from Kingston, and that is almost across Canada. (5200KM). We can not take my cats with us. I had spent almost 2 months for finding a new home for them. However, nothing happened. So at this point, we have to give them to Humane Society, which actually may not a bad idea, I hope.

Now one of them is just lying on my table beside this computer, and is looking at me while the other is playing with my wife. Man, sometimes you have to cry somehow! I just don't know how to explain the situation to them. It's XXXX tough to me, because they are unconscious of what's going on. They don't know what will happen tomorrow. I just want to tell them the reason, although I think it will be OK for them later. I just don't know how for God Sake!

Tomorrow morning, my wife and daugther will send them to the Humane Society. THis is exactly people said sth. you have to go through.

I wish they have good luck to find another home ASAP. I know cat is different from dog. They will be OK with a new home soon! Good Luck!!!

Sorry it might put you guys in a bad mood, however, right now I really want to write this for no reason.

Thanks.

I had the same situation with my two cats when i moved from florida to iowa. In the end we took them with us and it worked out great. we put there litterbox in the backseat and they just sort of walked around, and that was with two dogs in the van as well.

is the only reason you can't take your cats with you the long drive? Theres not a chance in hell I'd ever give up a pet because of moving. I'd have to be forced to do it.

The youngest of my three cats died in June from having diabetes(just too sick to treat back to good health) and it was a heartbreaker. I couldn't imagine willingly letting go of my animals. I'm a 24 year old grown man and I'll admit that I cried when Sam died. Its like losing family members..especiall when they've been around every day for 8 years. Weirdly, I also had a dog named Sam that died when I was 14, hit by a truck...he was my gift after having successful open heart surgery at the age of 8. That'll be a day I'll never forget

Anyway, the message is...don't give up on pets unless you absolutely have to. There are already a lot of animals in shelters(at least in the states) and if you can already provide them with a good home, make some sacrifices and take them with you.

That's deffinatly a long trip to take with the pets, and possably a night or two staying in a hotel, and most don't allow pets. So I understand the delima. But I hope a miricale comes your way that enables you to take them with you. I can tell you're attatched to them.

Thanks.

I appreciate yours replies. There is no way that I give them away only because the long trip! Trust me, I've done bunches reserches and contacted many people. It is not just in case. Most hotels and motels don't allow any pet, even camping ground for God Sake. And also I was told it's illegal if we just camp beside the road, or somewhere somehow. Even this is the situation. I still want to try, however,

biggest Concern is lots of apartments in Vancouver are pet is allowed. It will be almost impossible for me to reset up everything there with these guys. Trust me, I have analyzed the whole situation.

I did not sleep last night, and I put anything together. I reviewed everything in the situation again. I think I just can not.

I've figured out the only thing I could do, and I will do is I will call the Kingston Humane Society ASAP., when I set up everything in Vanvoucer. And if they still don't find a new home for my cats, I will definitely try to bring them to Vancouver my new home somehow! Best wishes for them.

Thanks guys for understanding and advising. I hope you guys have a great fishing this weekend. I realized that some of guys probably get up early for fishing.

This is the thing I have to go through. I hope Banff and Yellow Stone will help me feel better.

Sorry to hear that, good luck with the move and the job. Relocating is always tough enough. But losing friends like that is even tougher.

We brought our dog and cat from washington to florida then florida to california and then back to florida we just kept there food and catbox in the back seat and when we stoped for gas the dog would go then we would sneak them into the hotels, know one even saw us.

good luck, you will make the right decision.

Sorry to hear about the kitties H2,
I wouldn't be able to give 2 of mine up!! They are like my babies!! We have 3 cats, 2 rabbits, guinea pig, 2 aquariums, 1 ball python and a betta in a bowl. I hope we don't ever have 2 make that choice!!
At least, i am glad to hear that you are taking them to the Humane Society! I couldn't bear to hear of them being taken to a pound and euthanized or gassed!
Take care,
San

Sorry for confusing you. Yellow Stone and Banff are not the name of my cats. I meant I have time to travel and stay at Yellow Stone and Banff, since my cats wouldn't come with us, and that might help me a little to my feeling.

Thanks BFG. I believe that my cats will be OK at Humane Society. I know my local HS does great job on re-finding homes for cat and dog. There is no way for "pound and euthanized or gassed".

BTW, any suggestion or tip for visiting and camping at Yellow Stone? Thanks.

H20 you can do another thing, leave the cats with your neighboor ( if you get along with him ) and once you are at your home ask him to have the cats shipped by plane. Easy, safe and not that expensive, I guess the shipping should be around 50-100 dollars at the most just because they are live animals.

Ouch, that's tough... I'm sure that they'll be adopted. Call the humane society, around here, you can specify the type of home you want them to go to, and you can say that they go together. Good luck...

Thumbs up

Thanks.

Raul, I appreciate it your idea. However, I'm living in an university student apartment, most of my neighboors are students. I did tried your way, but it was not just in case. Any way, I will contact Humane Society as long as I set up, and if they found a new home. If they don't, I will try to use your way to bring my cats back. It will be so sweet! I don't care how much it will cost if the price is reasonable. Thanks again.

flbassman, yes I believe they will be adopted sooner or later. I know Humane Society did great professional job. Thanks a lot! As I said, I pray for them everyday.

I appreciate you guys help me to go through this. My wife said: " These fishing guys here are amazing! ...." Yeah, You guys are the best! We appraciate it.
