My son wanted one of those until I told him that they are for kids who has a daddy that doesn't care enough about them to teach them to cast a regular rod and reel. The ad says that you can cast 30 feet with it. I had him cast his rod across the yard, laid out a measuring tape to show him how far 30 feet was. His cast was at least 20 feet beyond that. He hasn't asked for one since. Tom, you are right. They have had to sell them to a million suckers. The stores in my area couldn't keep them in stock when they first released. This product only goes to show that Roland Martin will sell out to anything. Wasn't he the one who also endorsed the infamous Helicopter lure? That alone should tell you all you need to know.

				 | Rocket Rod

Yikes! I feel kind of foolish ...I am a mom, and I fish a little bit. My five yr. old boy has just started fishing, and loves it. I got him a Superman rod from Wal-Mart. While he likes that rod, he is always getting the line caught in the weeds. He saw rocket rod on t.v. and was like "Whoa! Mom, that's cool, can I get it?" I asked him why, and he said because it would help him to not get his line caught in the grass. LOL Why does everyone think it's a joke? Do you think for a young kid it's o.k.? He knows how to cast a line on a regular fishing pole (he uses a friends adult pole sometimes). Please let me know if it is worth getting, or if it's a piece of junk. Thank you so much!! |

If your son already knows how to cast, then you have already started him on the right path. As I said in my post, this item is for the kids who don't have a parent that is willing to teach them how to cast. If your son is anything like mine, then he can cast alot further than that thing can shoot the line. If you want to get him some things to do with fishing, then get him a new rod and reel combo and his own tackle box if he doesn't already have one. My son was on top of the world when I gave him his first tackle box. Don't forget to put some stuff in it. This is just my opinion. He is your kid, if you want to get him one, then go for it.

What I always say is go with what you know.If he can cast keep him with a regular rod. It takes practice but Im sure he will appreciate fishing more.
