Unhappy Sinking rapala - sinking temps

Air temp was 36 degrees today when jr and I slid the canoe into the ponds, with 10-12mph winds. We managed 2 1/2 hours before we froze. I managed to land two 15 inchers on a sinking rapala - first time I ever used it. Basically I just kind of yo-yoed it, paused, reeled and repeated.

Anybody use this type of lure for colder weather? What else do you use when it is this cold?

Jr stuck with a texas-rigged senko and struck out -first time in ages the little guy struck out!!

I've used a small #5 sinking Rapala in Gold finish with the black back. Caught a few on it too. Basically, I just cast it out and retrieve it slowly back to me, with short twitches of the rod to add a little extra action. About the only time I use this lure is in early spring when there is little cover to get snagged on.

This time of year I like spoons jigged real slow over deep cover. I'm trying to switch things up a bit now that I have more time to fish and don't have to worry about school but when the weather's cold and the bite's slow this is always my go to bait.

Yeah, I'm anxious to get out and try this again. the two i managed to land were caught in the the last 30 minutes we were out when i switched to the Rapala. i'ds like to start with the rap and cover a lot more water.... What woulod you switch to if the rap wasn't working. I'm thinking jig and trailer?

a jig is not my first choice. if they were hitting the crank then. they will hit the same crank now.. the trick is to find the speed that want it.. the colder the water the slower ya move it.. get it down and do the same thing only SLOWER...
