I prefer the Hula Popper to most popper now days. I also love the Jitterbug. Anyways, cast the hula popper out, let it sit until the ring on the water almost all go away, then twitch it so it'll pop. Then wait for the rings to disperse, then pop again. You can speed it up if they fish are very active or try a Chugging approach.

I'll hazard a confident guess that for you two who haven't had any bites, it's much more likely that the reason was not using it in the right time and place, as opposed to your retrieve techniques.

I have caught many fish on a Jitterbug, but I have never caught one on a Hula Popper. I watched my dad many years ago work one on Big Sam too, but I don't believe I recall ever seeing him catch one on the Hula Popper either.
![]() They've been around forever, surely someone can honestly talk about catching something on them?

i know the technique on most poppers, but haven't had a hit on a hula popper and very few on a jitterbug. I know both are productive baits.
Give me a popR any day and I'll wear em out. |

I have never had a hit on a Hula Popper either. I have had them in my box for as long as I can remember, and made too many casts to remember using one. But this year, I removed them from my box all together. I'll use that space for other baits I do better with.
