Plug Question

My new boat was recently delivered. The salesman gave me two sets of plugs; two brass plugs and two "flip up" plugs. So here is my question:

My recollection from the boat overview was that the brass plugs should be inserted from the outside and if I choose to use the "flip up" plugs, they are supposed to be inserted from inside the boat? Is this correct? Does it matter? Is one type of plug better than the other?

get the plugs that have the T scew on them and get rid of the others. They are the vest

I use a stick with some plastic bag wrapped around it held together with electrical ties. Whatever stops the water.

1Fast, the brass plugs have the T cross. Do I have the plug that you are talking about? Should these plugs be inserted from the outside as opposed to the inside of the boat? (I know that they will work either way but I am wondering if there is a preferable method?

I use the t plugs that have the rubber on them and insert from the back and screw them down tight. NEVER had any problem that way.

I'm the opposite-I use the flip up plugs, I alwas make sure the flip switch is pointed up, protected by the transom. The only times i have had with them is when I forget to put them in.

My boat actually has a one way valve in it that allows water out, but not in. This prevents me from ever needing to remove the drain plug or forget to put it in. It was installed in the boat when I purchased it, so I dont know where to find them, but it seems to be pretty handy so far, any excess water that the bilge doesnt pickup is out the back while trailering, boats dry as a bone by the time im home.

This is especially handy since its an older riveted aluminum and takes on a little more water than I'd like.

This is corect bud. I assume you have a glass boat??? If ya dont then you need to insert them from the bilge area due to the weld around the plug hole usually is not done well enough to get the plug fully seated. If'n ya have a aluminum boat the flip up type is just as good as the t plu but again insert from the bilge area. Yes on all glass rigs its much easier and very safe to insert from the exterior of the boat.

So you got a new aluminum too . . . What type of aluminum boat did you get?

Apparently they have started making the plugs better in the aluminum boats. Used to they where pretty narled up because of inexperienced welders not smoothing out there weld at the plug hole. So hows the boat doing firefly. Post up some numbers on the performance bud. Inquiring minds wanna know.

my boat has a little area about the size of a milk jug which i guess is considered the bilge holding area and its always had the plug from the inside and its a glass
