Default Need a rod to go with it

I just bought a Quantum Energy PT (got a steal on it for 80 bucks) 6.3:1 ratio 7 bearing reel and I now need help outfitting it with a rod. I'm not sure if I should go with a 7 foot or bigger. I plan on throwing crankbaits, jigs and probally some spinnerbaits with it. Also with line selection should I go with a Fluorocarbon with what lb test?

i would go with a 7'er if possible, really it depends on your body size and if you are comfortable with longer rods. with what you said you plan on doing with it (crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs) MH is the only way to fly. however i would suggest not throwing crankbaits and jigs on the same rod. a rod that is heavy enough for a jig is too heavy for a crankbait, and a rod light enough for a crankbait is too light for a jig. but if this set up has to be used for both MH is as happiest medium you will find.

To start off with I would go with a 7' MH rod.

When using light cranks a medium action rod will help you land more fish.

When jiggin the heavy action rod will help you pull them up.

good luck

An six foot nine inch med heavy rod will work on jigs ,spinner baits, wide wobble shallow crank (RC 1.5). The 6'9'' rod will let you roll cast around cover spinner baits and crank baits, but also pitch 1/4 or 3/8 jig or soft plastics. And 17# floro will work for all three.

2 things about the reel.#1 if the paint is still in great shape.it aint been used much, 98% of mine has no paint on it..
#2 any line over 20 pound test is a major pain in the butt to rethread the reel eye. buy several reel threaders-bps-..even with #12 pound test it is a piece of work to get threaded with out one.. i have used floro-p-line halo- in mine. NO THANKS. would not even try to do that again..

when floro breaks in the spool during the cast, as often it does, bexcause of the shape of the quatum reel. it pushes the broken shard/spur into your thumb.-oh joy- not to mention the above problems of re-threading the blasted beast..

i run 100% ande mono on my 100% of the time.. no problems..
