				 | First trip after moving to New York

Finally got enough things unpacked to get the boat out for the first time after moving here. I went to Upper Saranac Lake for a few hours from 3-7:30 P.M. and had some fun, the lake is huge and will take me a while to figure things out. First thing I found was a rock pile in 25-28' that had several smallies on it, here's my first bass as a New Yorker: I moved around a bit exploring and found some small bass and was surprised by how many fish in general are in the lake, lots of perch! I found some bass chasing schools of perch in a weedbed near an island in 7' and caught this one on a jerkbait: He coughed up an 8" perch on his way to the boat. Found another spot with bass busting on perch like crazy and had at least 20 blow ups on a spook but no hookups. ? Very strange, so I threw the jerkbait again and that seemed to work a lot better. Here's a couple other pics of the lake near sundown: What a pretty place, I can't wait to get back out there. I'll try to remember my camera next time and not just the phone, but I have not found it yet in the mess of boxes still waiting to be unpacked. |

Thanks guys, I went to a different lake today and caught some but nothing worth a picture. Hopefully heading out tomorrow before the crowds. The only bad thing about fishing up here is the ramps are generally very small and there is no parking for a truck and trailer this long. Bassboss, I checked into that and the law is strange. In NY you are not allowed to sell any lead weights less than 3/4 or 1 oz. Since I pour my own it seems that I am O.K. It does appear that in VT and NH you cannot use lead. Without a job for a while I sure as heck can't afford tunsten drop shot weights, especially as many as I go through in the rocks up here. Maybe I can just powder paint my lead ones if I have to. |

Bender, That is the first time I've seen the lead law actually fight what it proposes to fight. If the concern is waterfowl ingesting lead, well, yeah...it would only be the small weights. If a duck sucks up a 1oz sinker, it was too dumb to live anyways. California goes and bans lead outright, as if lead is just bad, bad, bad. Dummies.
