When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinners?
Windy, cooling water, spinnerbaits. Sounds like September and October to me. Sounds like today.
On these windy days usually a heavy, fast lure like a spinnerbait can keep the line tight, but what happens when they won't hit them? Anything fast like crankbaits or such, or heavier stuff like jigs? Worms don't really work because the wind blows and the line won't stay tight and it's hard to feel a fish. What do you guys do in wind when the spinnerbait fails? ??? |

I've had great success using the
sinker-swivel-leader-hook rig with a small-medium sized baitfish (shiners or bluegill) fished on the bottom in the shallows during these conditions. Just cast it out and let it sit there... keep it fairly close to cover or a hole... set the hook hard good luck, seaphantom |

Take a look at the Lucky Craft BDS3 and BDS4. These work well for me in the wind

You could almost go to a movie AND buy a small popcorn with that kind of money.

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
I still throw worms. I use a C-Rigged getup with braided line(leader as well), a 1 ounce wght. The heavy sinker lets me keep a tight line, and the braid feels every tick, even in the wind.
I have also been known to position myself over the structure and verticle jig a heavy spoon, or a tailspinner. Still a slow presentation, but you have a good feel. Charles |

Also a regular t-rigged Slugo, with a inserted weight or even with a Pegged Bullett weight moved up about 6"-12" up the line. I also still throw weightless plastics. You will feel more strikes by taking up the slack and raising the rod tip to see if there is pressure before twitching it. If you feel any pressure against the line, SET THE HOOK. A good fluke twitched rapidly and kept towards the top will also be a good bait in these conditions. Lizards |

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
Wind is one of the hardest things to deal with for most fisherman. There's a big belly in the line or you happen to be facing into the wind for a cast and you end up with a backlash. Every one here has done it one time or another. I believe it is a mental thing. I make adjustments by weight. With worming, use a heavier sinker to keep contact with the bottom. And adjust my reel to be able to cast into the wind with a large crankbait or what ever. To make a long story short, guess I'll flip, toss a worm or a crankbait. As far as a buzzbait; IMO it depends on the cloud cover.

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
ahhhhh..... i start heading for the nearest piont that the wind is blowing into. then i throw cranks at the piont. if that fails i head for rip rap. and again fish with the wind into the rocks with a crank bait -normally a bomber a with a square lip.. half the fun is tring to hold the boat off the beach/rocks....

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
The $16.00 might seem a little high, but these baits are garanteed. Just sell them on the E-bay you'll get most of your money back.
In the conditions that were previously mentioned, it seems as though those are the best for spinnerbaits. In the event that spinnerbaits won't work, I go with a crankbait. |

I don't put weights on my worms. I downright cannot stand them. Especially in 2 ft of water. |

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
lone find a new place to fish. if i remeber right you can drive right? you are putting undue pressure on the same bass all of the time with the same bait.TRY SOMETHING DIFFERANT for once....
i recomend a strike king crank bait series 1 only..every thing else goes to deep. zooker

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
I doubt that 1 hour, twice a week, is too much for about 100+ catchable bass in the same pond.
Especially since I usually switch parts of the pond. And it's worms they'd be sick of, not spinnerbaits. Not many good places to shore fish anyways. |

B4 this year I would've agreed on that comment. But this year I've caught bass on buzzbaits in the middle of the day, with blue sky. This is when I can't get them to bite on anything else. So I believe if you can get a fish to have a reaction strike, then a buzzbait will do it better than most other baits. I caught them this year in the middle of the lake(30') and along the shore on a buzzbait. The rules aren't always correct, Bass eat when they are hungry, and they attack when provoked or angry, or protecting their haunt. I believe the buzzbait will create all of these reactions in a bass. Of course this is all just My Opinion Lizards |

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
remeber when bass fishing nothing and i mean nothing is writen in stone. yes there are times a good piont is hard to beat then again ya can fish it all day and catch nothing same rules aply to use of any lure. a buzz bait can and will catch fish any where from inches of water to 100's of feet deep water. this is no suprise really. i have seen small mouth tear up out of 150 feet of water to hammer a buzz bait. i have also caught large mouth in inches of water on bugs island. why? i don't real know.but in any one who fishes for bass any where in the country should own at lest 1 buzz bait and have no fear at using it..

Re: When it's rather windy and they wont hit spinn
Indeed.
This evening after the western horizon turned a beautiful orange, my dad was tossing a shallow diving crankbait and I was using a spoon up at top and we were catching them up to 20 ft away from the weeds! No cover, except the cover of darkness. For one reason or another, they were out there. We discovered this by accident... someone made a bad cast LOL Caught one fish by accident... was unhooking another, then put the rod down and looked at the fish. When I put the rod down the lure went in the water and hung there, and a little bass came up, hit it, set the hook on himself, tired himself out, did all the work! |
