Well the heat is on here in Texas. The afternoons are just about unbearable. The heat index is the killer. The lake is about two foot low and falling. The water temp is holding at 85 degrees. The fish are starting to school off and on during the day. The mornings are started shallow with top water and Texas rig worms. Weightless wacky Wave Tiki Sticks and Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worms have been good around grass and in deep water. It will take a knack to work the weightless baits in the deep water as they sink slowly. This is the ticket to get the bite. Keep the bait in front of the fish and they will bite. Zoom flukes fished weightless and with a weighted hook is another good deep water bait. The drop shot should be at hand at all times when the fish are there and wont bite. Put the drop shot down there and just jiggle slightly. Jigging spoons will be a good deep water bait along with tail spinner baits. The Carolina rig is a good deep water technique when all else fails.

The lipless crank bait should be kept handy for the schooling activity.

Work the baits slowly. Swim baits are catching a few suspended fish. Getting the count right to get the bait in the strike zone is the key.

The crappie are showing up at the bridges but the best areas are at your own brush piles. I have talked about brush before and now is the time to get it out. The McDonald tourney is not far off and the brush can work for crappie and for bass. The key is putting the brush in the right areas.
