So are you looking at big mouth full of rows of teeth? Im thinking its a bowfin, i caught one of these back in October or so and by the time i realized how mean this puppy was i had already lipped it only to nearly lose my thumb........and if it is a bowfin, i wouldnt eat that thing.

could it be a perch? what kind of water body did you catch him out of? depth, condition, lure, that might help us determine what he is.

there not native species to north america, but they arnt an evasive species because they pose no threat to other species of fish in the water.......like you said they came from africa or somewhere over there. i have seen them in all the golf coarse ponds, and some other ponds that i have fished......they dont get very big.

I think the reason they bit worms so good is that it is a clay bottom pond ans there aint no plants in it....................

Bass in Mexico grow fat feeding on them, they are the most abundant panfish in mexican waters, depending on the species they are herbivorous and/or detritophagous. They are native to central africa and are raised for human consumption and animal consumption. Most probably you have eaten them without noticing, they are sold filleted and labeled as "white nile fish" in places like Sam“s and Costco.
