i use a 1/8 ounce in water no deeper than 6 feet, 1/4 ounce in 6-12 feet,3/8 ounce in 12-18 feet. 18 feet or more is almost always a 1/2 ouncer. remmeber that when it's windy, upgrade the weight of your sinker so you don't lose any feel of your lure. hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go mainly on the depth I'm fishing. The deeper the water, the heavier the sinker. I rarely use heavier than a 3/8 oz. when casting, but when flipping or pitching I go up to 1 oz. depending on how heavy the cover. Sometimes you need a real heavy sinker to punch through a grass mat.

3/16 here but usually most guys I fish with go a tad heavier. I only will use 1/4 or 5/16 or larger if I need to penetrate some heavy vegetation

boy scout you are dead wrong... the heavier the bullet the faster the fall. bullet weights NEVER inpair the action of the bait. a heavy bullet -ie penatrator-can weigh as much as 3oz i seen pro's working hydrilla and grass mats buy punching this big bullet thru the grass they t-rig a 4" craw on this rig-remind me which pro won a major tourny doing this?? zooker
