This is a general thanks to all the input and posts on the site where everyone's given advice on fishing clear, deep, pressured water. Had a tournament on Lake Momaw (highland reservoir) saturday and won my first tournament off the back of a boat
. If you're fishing this kind of water, here's what's going on at Moomaw- 49-63 degree water depending on up-river main channel (49) or down-river riprapped coves (63). Fish staging at 10-15 ft near spawning flats (gravelly, hard bottomed, weedy) close to deep water and roaming around shallow to feed. Water very clear at 12 ft +. Shad moving into coves and very active with schools of wolves shadowing them. Mama bass lurking shallow when hungry and feeding on craws. Had to move a little further off the bank and finesse the bite with lighter line (6# fluoro) and natural colored bait. Caught fish on: T-rigged GP ultra-vibe Zoom craw off riprap, C-rigged smoke lizard and GP centipede off riprap (believe it or not) and dragged up and across deeper points near flats, chartreuse/green shadrap and split shot flukes.Good luck, ya'll, and thanks again ! Spring is here in the highlands of VA...-Pig |
