Today was an unusual day. I launched at 4:45 AM and proceeded to start casting with buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. About 15 minutes into the day a real sow latched onto my spinnerbait. Thirty seconds into the fight she came off.
That was the last strike I had untill 10AM. I was throwing various buzzbaits, but the buzzbait bite was non existant. Note to No bass. The buzzbait you sent me worked very well. No doubt had the buzzbait bite been on, it would have caught me a few. It's sweet! The day started out very calm, with a mirror finish on the surface. But about 9:30 the wind started picking up a lot. By 10:00 the wind must have been blowing about 20 mph out of the north. Sooooo, I decided to head to the south east bay and see if the pounding waves had stirred up some action. Because the waves were so strong I anchored in about 12 foot of water with nice submerged weedbeds and started throwing a 3" Xcaliber popper and a Heddon Super Spook. Thats where I stayed for the next two hours, in which time I caught somewhere around 30 bass. They were really tearing into the popper and spook which I worked very agressivly. Seemed the more commotion I made in those waves, the better the action. I got a serious back lash at one point but thank God it came out ok!!! That was my popper rod! Eventually the action slowed so I headed over to try to retrieve my brothers combo he lost overboard last weekend with my newly made dredging tool. It turned out to be a fail! Gonna make some adjustments with it and try it again next time. One thing happened which was a first for me. I thought I had hooked into a nice big bass with my popper, but when I got it along side the boat, there were actually 2 bass attached to my popper, not one. Thats a first for me.
