After 3 days of rain, the lake today was up about 2 feet, with all kinds of newly flooded timber...I was going to throw the rattletrap and rogue today, but after launching the boat, I realized the water clarity was less than one foot! Just like the ol days..seems this year most of the waters I fish are super clear..
Anyway, after seeing the green tint to the water, I knew that the spinnerbait would be my first choice, and after working a bank for about half hour I started getting bass...but not really on the timbers, they were all out on the flats about 20 feet from the tree tops in the water. Got a few in the 13-15 inch range, each one was fatter than the other..worked my way into some shallow water and found no bites, so I went back over deep water and stumbled upon a giant clump of hydrilla, lowered a 3 inch Kalin grub and started just jigging where ever the grub would fall through, and got 3 more, plus two giant crappie, one I put in the live well, and two more came unhooked as I was swinging them in the boat.. went back to the flat and got another bass, it hit like a ton of bricks and had black lips, just like someone painted them on with lipstick. I was using a white Hart spinnerbait that kevin gave me, with the red long trailer strands , and the fish were sure fiesty! ![]() |
