Well. I said I guarantee that my biggest bass will come out of that pond, and it sure did. It was only a half on inch longer than my last one with the same girth. Using the weight calculator, it turns out to be 4 pounds 9 ounces. At this stage in my fishing "career", it's a hog by my standards.
I WILL catch a bigger one in this same pond. Here is the story... Everything was going well from the start of the day. I got the correct parts for my Quantum reel, along with a free "ProTeam" Quantum hat. My dad caught his first jig bass and his first superfluke bass. I hadn't caught a bass for like three hours. All I was throwing was a jig. I went by my dad and picked up my other rod and threw a superfluke. I don't know what told me to, but I picked up my jig rod and flipped my jig right into a tree. I was just yapping from boredom, and BAM! I horsed the bass out of the tree within seconds. Thank you Zooker for telling me to lock down my drag, because if it hadn't been, I wouldn't have landed the bass. I caught it on a 5/16oz Booyah Bed Bug Jig in Brown&Orange with a Green Pumpkin Baby Brush Hog as a trailer. I was using 50lb test braid also. Then the next cast I caught a bullhead. And the next cast a big snapping turtle, and it bit my dad's thumb. The turtle jumped and did a 360 while extending its neck and biting my dad. It was pretty freaky. Luckily, he still has his thumb, and it's just cut on the top.![]() Here is the tree I flipped my jig into. Right in the center. I never thought I'd be able to horse him out, but if you look at cedar trees in Texas and Mexico, this is nothing.
