Fishing with grandpa and Jr again, we had a good day. no pigs but boated several bass in that 2 - 2.5 range. But, we did "catch" the biggest fish of the year!
Grandpa needed to stretch his legs so we beached the canoe and sat on the shore eating some PBJ sandwiches when across the pond (about 120yds) I spot something odd. Something that appears bleach white bobs to the surface in a shallow area and makes a feeble couple of splashes and then floats. We watched it for about 5 minutes it made a few weak splashes, bobbed and then just floated. we really had nfew guesses what it was. Maybe a flipped over turtle, or my dad thought dying seagull... We hopped into the canoe and hustled across the pond... take a look at what had, we think, just died in the pond. The weird think is this is a land locked pond. There is, however, a river not to far away 1/2 a mile that probably reaches the pond on the rare years that it floods. Anyway, that is my size 11 foot in the picture. We measured it at 36 1/2 inches and once Jr saw it's teeth he was ready to quit fishing. I've never seen a pike in that water, nor heard of anyone catching one.. What do you guys think? Ever heard of pike in a pond? If you click on the picture it get larger and you get a better look... Excuse my ignorance, but it is a pike right? Oh Yeah, I know I got ugly feet!
