Default fishing with live crawfish

it just rained where i lived and crawdads are abundant in the ditches. so i got a couple and headed down to a local pond to see what i could do. i caught one bass but missed two others. i don't know if it was because i did not hook(or rig) the craw properly or if i waited too long to set the hook. either way i was looking for some advice as far as how to properly rig a crawfish and whether i am just waisting my time ; maybe i should just throw plastics. i don't know. looking for help. the ponds i am fishing are reletively small and are typically stained. i was using a carolina type rig with about a two foot leader.

and Jesus said, "go fish" .... but this time for men
