Default little luck at a large pond yesterday

i was fishing at a large pond in ct yesterday staying along the shoreline and areas that provied cover , i tried everything from spinners to surface baits and rubber worms but had no luck . The only bass that was caught was a 14inch largemouth that hit a nightcrawler on my 7 year old sons line it was great for him but left me kind of frustrated any ideas would be great and i tried alot
