Default Sweet beavers sideways?

I was watching and episode of City limits fishing today with Mike I. in Philadelphia and noticed he caught a good 3lb smallie on what looked to be a sweet beaver turned sideways on what he called a scrounger head (looked like a jig head with a plastic chatterbait blade in front. I know it wasnt a beaver ( i know its made by berkley but its basically a sweet beaver).I have never seen beavers rigged vertically this way and it did somewhat resemble a small baitfish. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this or maybe just something to try the next time you guys go out.
