I was sitting in my garage amongst the different types of lines I use and deceided to check some of the line limits according to the poundage marked on the box.
It was a very rudamentry test but it proved to me not all lines are what they seem. I used the Crawford figure 8 knot and the Palomar knot tied to a dart head and then tied a loop knot to a digital scale and slowly applied pressure to the line. The dart head was secured to the table by placing the hook under the table and letting the point bite into the table. I grasp the scale by both hands and pulled upward slow and steady. 1. Stren High Impact 15# : the crawford knot broke at 12lb 2 oz. 2. Stren High Impact 15# : the palomar knot did not break even at 22lb 7oz. nor did the line. 3. Power Pro 20# : the crawford knot broke at 14lbs. 4. Power Pro 20# : the palomar knot did not break but the line broke at 17 lbs 7oz. This was just something I was wondering about and thought I'd share. I will test the other lines during the week after work and post my findings. This is in no way a scientific test but just my way of finding out the breaking strengths of knots and line. |
