This is one of my favorite techniques.
I'll take a fluke, or some other lightwieght lure that I can sidearm cast and have it skip off the water a few times. this can appear as a fleeing baitfish trying to get away from a predator, creates a fair amount of commotion over a large area in a short amount of time capturing the fishes attention, and then suddenly when it comes to a stop and slowly floats down appears like a wounded baitfish. I've had a lot of luck with this technique. Try it a few times next time you're throwing flukes and see if you don't catch a hog. I wouldn't try this with a baitcaster unless you enjoy picking out the backlash.
