Does anyone change their crankbait hooks? Last year, I kept losing fish on my Rapala DTs. They actually came off the hook while swimming towards the boat or fell off as I tried to hoist them on the boat. Anyway, I replaced the original hooks with larger trebles (Gamakatsu size 4). It seemed to work.
So, now that it is cold (I really don't fish in the winter), I am going through my tackle and stuff. I am thinking about changing the hooks on all of my crankbaits that I use primarily for Largemouth and have hooks smaller than size 4s. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Will the action be stymied as a result of a heavier hook? Is this common-practice for the veteran fisherman on this forum? I am interested to hear your thoughts. |
