So there I was, cruising the shoreline working a toad and spinnerbait in amoung the heavy cover the bass were holding tight to on this hot sunny cloudless day. I found an ideal spot along the bank. There was overhanging limbs providing shade and shelter, and there was also some good vedgitation in the water along with a nice laydown nearby. Perfect spot I thought as I flipped my Yum Bsss Frog perfectly into the back of the pocket about 2 foot from the bank. Perfect except for the backlash that sprung out of my cast. I muttered a few expletives and layed my rod down to work on untangling my birdsnest. It took me about two - three minutes and I finally had my line back to action mode. I began my retrieve and felt the toad was bogged down into the heavy weeds. So I pulled hard on the rod to free the toad from the weedy mess. However, I was jolted when that weedy mess turned out in fact to be a huge bass that had inhaled my toad. He blew up out of the water and the toad flew from his mouth after a 10 second skirmish. I've had luck working toads in many ways, but never ever thought deadsticking a toad would be a usefull approach. Funny what accidents can teach us.
