Default A question

Is it possible that a fishing rod loses its sensitivity over time from being used alot ?

I think it is possible , because of the twisting of the rod blank when fighting a fish has to effect it over time. The spiral wrap guide system helps eliminate rod twist, but there is the wicked hooksets to get the fish started in the right direction when puling them out of the thick weedbeds.I would think a dropshot rod would last forever. There is no hookset, just simply reeling down on the fish, but a flipping and pitching stick takes some serious abuse as a frog rod probably does as well ? it would depend on how old the stick is 8-10 years old yeah maybe.. but then think of it this way.. how far has the rod blanks come in the last 10 years.. if you are using a rod that is 10 years old it is definatly is going to feel less senstive than a rod 1 year old. not to mention it probly will weigh twice as much..

Excellent point, Zooker! I've never given much thought to a rod losing it's sensistivity, and I don't think I've owned a rod past five years (If I did, one of my sons ended up with it when I replaced it with something newer! The boys relegate them to catfish and sandbass duty.
