My lovely wife allowed me to go fishing tonight so I decided to hit the pond down the street. I started out throwing a white fluke and got some big topwater hits. Had more misses that hooks so I switched to a smaller worm. This gave me a few more hooks but I was still looking for that larger fish. I saw some big swirls near my bait but they just wouldn't take it. All the fish I had landed so far were 1 to 1.5 lbs. I had 7 fish in about an hour and half. The wife called and asked if I was coming back home soon. I took this as I needed to go back so I decided to make one more cast. But I decided to change to a thicker shorter bait. I threw a super hog from zoom. It hit the water and I danced it about a foot and then bam. A very large explosion. I set the hook and wrestled the beast back to the bank. I couldn't tell how big it was due to the weeds it brought with it. Once I uncovered the weeds I saw that I could almost fit my entire fist into his mouth. I knew then I had beaten my personal best. It is not a hawg but at least I broke the 2 lb mark. I am so going out to this pond again in the morning.
2 lbs 3 oz. woohoo ![]() I also caught what I think is a pickerel. Can you guys tell me what this is? ![]() Typical of what a fish looks like when I landed them. ![]() After you clean off the weeds, the fish can be small. ![]() |
