Prespawn...find a flat that would be a good place for bedding for when they spawn, and find the first dropoff or ledge from the flat. They'll probably be staging there in preparation for the actual spawn. If not there, they might be on the next ledge out.

yeah i agree. also if the weather on tourney day is warm then be ready to follow the fish up shallow because if the water warms up then they may be on the move. also i would fish points that have the channel running up against them.

C rig, that last tourneys weather change is still wearin' on ya isn't it
![]() I can remember at least half the times we tourney fished like three weekends out of the month for years on end, the weather would take a big change from the weekend ya got to pre fish to the actual day of the tourney. I was lucky enough to fish with tony back then and he was excellant at figuring out the weather change and where it relates to fish holding... Once at Ky lake he came in with a lot of nice fish while the rest of us just had one, he downscaled to the smalled bomber crawdad they sell (6a) and pulled off fish from the many concrete ramps that home owners have on big bear, then hit the dock beside it that usually had a boat or pleasure craft in it. The way I always looked at it was "well we are out in this weather while most wouldn't even attempt it" during those really bad cold / rainy days...a lot of times ya learn what to do after the weigh in, and it sinks into the memory for the "next time" |

I don't have too much experience this early in the year, but you are ahead of Michigan down there. I would expect the fish to be stacking up near the mouth of bays or moving into them.
I know tomorrow in northern Indiana I am going to try jerkbaits, jigs, stick worms, and traps in search of them. Good luck! |
