Frustration...
Hey Guys,
I'm an idiot...somewhere in the midst of a boat-load of spring projects on my boat I lost my friggin' keys to it...ice is just starting to break out this week and was looking forward to getting out this weekend now I'm afraid I'm going to have to get a new ignition..anyone know about how much they cost... Nitro Savage 896 200 Merc. EFI bcklash, thanks for your input on the recessed pedal setup, I got it installed yesterday and it looks awesome and more importantly feels a whole lot more comfy...I did the same type of install about an inch or two back from the control panel

dude call a locksmith and they will come out and make you a mold of the key my brother had lost the keys to a car and had this done i think it only set him back like $180 which is expensive but better than the alternative .

Is the ignition different for a high HP motor? Dont know if there is a function in there that is differenct from the lower/older hp models I have worked on, but...
I bought a ignition switch last year for 20 something bucks. Now thats just a universal switch with key and the positions, I cant say if it is compatible, and I'm not talking something that matches your dash, just that it worked in my case. Then again, I used to start the outboard without a solenoid, by direct wiring the starter to the battery for a sec.

Depends on what type of ignition and control box do you have. On the Nitro you have the flush mount controls....correct???? and the ignition is in the dash,,,,,,correct???? Last one was $40 plus shipping to get it to me if memory serves me right.

bcklash, you were right! Mercury only made a dozen or so different keys, however the newer boats have more unique ignitions. I was able to get a copy from a master set at my local mercury dealer for $3..I think it might be the cheapest thing I've ever had to buy for my boat

I agree with Jason Here in St Louis if you go to a mercury dealer and leave a deposit some will loan you a ring of keys to try ...or tow it to the dealer and let them find the one it takes . There are not many to choose from .try a freinds if they have a mercury chances are it might fit.
