Shortening a trolling motor
Is it ok to cut off some of a trolling motor to make it the right length? Will it affect performance?

Shortening the shaft won't hurt the performance, but it will surely void the warranty. But it sounds like you're getting one without a warranty anyway? I say go for it if the deal is good enough.

Yep. What he said. Though do it slow or you will clip the inserted wires.

After seeing the other post, I had a feeling this thread was on its way.
Make sure you know exactly how it will all fit back together before you start cutting. A foot pedal motor wouldnt be as easy as a tiller type cause of the way it steers at the top. Anything can be done, and I have done some stupid TM surgery before (actually worse than what you are doing) but sometimes you can bite off more than you want. |

Dont forget the wiring inside the shaft.Cut with a tube or pipe cutter at one end, like near the head. They are adjustable, why not just raise up a tad?
