We had a similar event for SGT Gary Nelson over here yesterday. It was sight to behold ladder firetrucks forming an archway over Hwy 20 (GA-20) and people lining the road for miles between Hwy 515 in Canton and the Georgia National Cemetery overlooking the Etowah Valley. God Bless thier Souls, each and everyone of them, for defending freedom wherever it is threatened around the world. They are special breed!

Very moving.
I don't mean to sound like an @$$, but he was not a soldier, he was a Marine. To many this may sound like I am just being a jerk, but trust me. To the SSgt, it was a distinct difference and I will guarantee that the difference matters. These are the last two lines of the Marine's Hymn. "If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines." Semper Fi Marine.

That was a very touching video. There is nothing worse than a member of our armed forces making the ultimate sacrifice, but I am thankful for all of those that are willing to.

The 5th comment down really bothers me, ''If you live in the Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Simpson area please show up tomorrow to help us block the protesters at Jason's funeral tomorrow.'' I just assume its the westboro babtist church nutjobs, It's a shame this young man dies for the very freedom that gives those nutjobs the right to assemble. something should be done about those people

They protested a funeral in the town where I grew up (about 30 miles north of where we live now). Everyone in the town showed to keep their protest from happening but there were still plent of the idiots holding signs. Under normal circumstances in this small farm town they would have ended up getting beat sensless but as I understand it the captain moron that heads this cult has a son that is a lawyer and the old man just runs his mouth hoping that someone will touch him so he can sue them. They weren't so lucky when they protested a funeral in OK though. Their vans ended up having all their tires flattened somehow and all the tire shops in the town refused to help them. To top it off everyone refused to give them a ride to the next town over to get their tire situation taken care of . Not sure how they ended up getting their tires replaced or fixed but the was made loud and clear.

Oh, they definitely deserve it, not a doubt in this world about that. But that would only give them funds to further their cause, so it's really better that nobody did.
I remember that story about the tires being slashed, Kory. I literally laughed out loud when they said that nobody in town would sell them tires. I think I would've sold them a set for about $2000 and donated it all to a Wounded Warrior charity.

Here is some information I found about why those morons were not there:
From an Ole Miss sports message board, a tidbit of information… A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his arse waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened. Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that most will never know about and at great expense to the county. Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out. A few made it to the funeral but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their business. |

You beat me to it, Chris...I come here to post a link to that story. I'm trying to find some different sources to verify what happened, but haven't come up with any. If it's true, and I really have no reason to doubt it, it's a beautiful thing.
That's the way we do it in Mississippi....

Very touching video. Brought tears to my eyes for sure.
Very nice to have a chance to see this today. Just last night, I was sitting in the Pub. An older woman was telling me how some jagoff had removed her Support Our Troops bumper sticker from her car. Her son is currently in Afghanistan. If I EVER saw someone pulling something like that, they'd learn a lesson in respect real quick....and how to eat through a straw. My hat is off to the people of Brandon. They definitely know how to do the right thing
