Help with reel choice
I am going to get a new shimano chronarch 200e casting reel I will be using it for mainly med crank baits like the bandit and spro little john, I will be cranking at depths of from 3 feet to 8 feet what gear ratio should I get I am thinking the 6.5:1 would be best what do you think. I will be using this on my Powell 703 cb glass rod.

Since you stated that this reel will specifically be used for cranking, I would opt for the the 5.5:1 at 23 IPT(inches per turn), over the 6.5:1 at 27 IPT.
Reason being, it's easier for me to speed up my presentation with a slower reel, as apposed to trying to slow it down with one that is faster. I use a Revo Winch 5:4-1 at 20.6 IPT. -Mark Last edited by woody; 04-01-12 at 01:16 PM. |

Not my business, but I say save yourself about 60 dollars and get the Shimano Curado
200E5, same reel as the Chronarch, and the gear ratio makes for a good cranking reel.

Don't let the name fool you, the new Chronarch is basically last year's Curado painted white. The "Curadarch." BB
