Well, the winds have been relentless here at lake Fork. I have a feeling with the warm weather staying around the wind will be a major factor this year. We may as well get ready for it. The wind doesn’t hurt the fishing just the fisherman. The wind wont let you fish where you want and how you want in most areas. Like I tell everyone. There are plenty of boat ramps and you can move from area to area without getting out on the big lake if you don’t want to. There is always a place you can get to and still find fish.
The fishing is still good. The water is 53 degrees and is still dropping. We are little over 4 feet low. Like the paper said the other day our lake will have to get 20 feet low before we will have a launching problem. Lake fork was filled slowly and has very long ramps. The ramp at 154 bridge was like a highway to the water it was so long. So if your lake is unfishable come to the best lake in Texas and go fishing. The fishing has been great and looks to get off to a good start this year. The lipless crank bait and spinner bait are the best shallow water baits with a jig and pig following the up. Grass and grass with timber is your best areas and main lake points and secondary points are the other areas. Cover plenty of water and slow down when you catch a fish and work the area over good before moving on. The deep bite is good if and when you can get out there. Look for the bait fish and the bass should be close by. Jigging spoons and drop shot are the best baits. The crappie are still strong but the wind has been the biggest problem. 27 to 37 foot has been the best depth. I know this report is almost the same every week but we are still in the winter and the patterns are pretty consistent this time of year. The marinas and motels are reporting calls for the spring and are filling up. If you want to fish Lake Fork this Spring you need to get your plans set. Give me a call if I can help.
