need to vent...
my dad freakin comes late and then he sits there talking on the phone then keeps saying 5 minutes every time i ask him to go and then finally we decide to go and he spends more time changing... then getting his office space organized, taking his time. we start. i get out of the car and walk no more than 5 steps and i hear thunder. then im pelted by a few raindrops followed by a crazy lightning flash. i start flipping out on me dad for lying about when he was coming back and then lying about his time on the phone... what ticked me off is that i heard him say "no, im not busy i have time" right at the beginning. then he says oh why are you yelling you never catch fish anyways.
god today after all the reading and trying so hard, i thought i would actually catch something. i am so very ticked off right now i think ill lock myself in my room and read... or maybe a bit of luremaking. sorry i just had to vent myself Last edited by crankybait; 07-04-06 at 05:42 PM. |

try to maybe make plans in advance, maybe if you told him you wanted to go fishing on a certain day you could plan on it and it would be more likely to happen and you would probably have more time as well as a better time. I don't know your dad or you, but as a father and having a father who did the same thing with me, it turned out i just had to make the plans in advance and things would happen, if i said hey dad lets go golfing he woudl goof around and it would be too dark to go. So just a suggestion, but like i said, i dont know you or your dad so it worked for me but may not for you.
Good luck out there. |

Remember this day and remember how it feels. Then, 20 years from now remember it again when your kid is looking forward to doing stuff with you. I think every dad does it. They don't realize or forget how huge a day with their dad can be to their kid.
One day he'll probably wish he had more time with you, but by that time you'll have a family of your own. It sucks. It happened to me and I find myself doing it to my son. I try hard not to be like that but it's natural for people to be a little selfish that way. Don't stay too ticked at him. There's always more fish to catch. You're young and if you keep putting in the time that you've been you'll be one of the greats. Take care. |

Cranky, I composed this poem just for you. Tell me how you like it....
A child arrived just the other day, He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away. And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew, He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad. You know I'm gonna be like you." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then." My son turned ten just the other day. He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play. Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today, I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok." And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed, Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him." And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then." Well, he came from college just the other day, So much like a man I just had to say, "Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?" He shook his head, and he said with a smile, "What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys. See you later. Can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then." I've long since retired and my son's moved away. I called him up just the other day. I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time. You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu, But it's sure nice talking to you, dad. It's been sure nice talking to you." And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, He'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me. And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, Little boy blue and the man in the moon. "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when, But we'll get together then, dad. You know we'll have a good time then."

did you ever come out and tell him that directly?maybe he just doesn't realize how important he is to you.maybe his parents were never that way with him so he's just being traditional.if you haven't told him that then try it.or take him to see adam sandler's new movie "click".it's about a dad who never has any time for his kids and realizes he's wrong.it's also funny as all hell.i would love it if my kids said they wanted to fish with me!!!

never actually told him i wanted to spend time with him... all he ever did was talk about studying and me being a doctor (which, by the way i dont want to be... only reason i applied to medical high school was 1.he promised me a new rod, reel, and 50 lures [still never bought the lures] 2, id become rich, and 3, since i didnt have to use my birthday money for this years fishing id be able to start making lures. after he started talking id just get angry and walk away. every time he sees me, "pranoy, have you done your studying today?" on the phone when i talk to him
me: hey dad, when are you coming home? dad: soon, but how are your studies going? funny thing, i was supposed to go to six flags today, but it rained. was going to see click with my neighbor but my neighbor got grounded. i think when my dad gets home i think ill straight up tell him |

Growing up, I think most of us wish our Dads could spend a little more time with us. I don't think any of us has the right to question your father, nor the position to give advice over the internet of any serious nature. Obviously he is a busy man, it may be a shame that he has to spend so much time away but try not to bear or foster resentment towards him.

haha studies aint no problem for me. neither is college, im aming for harvard. i do study hard, but he always pushes it. to him, a 92 is bad, a 95 couldve been better, and a 97 is fine. i dont really want to be a doctor, he made me. i wanted to be a lawyer doing part time so i had time to make lures in late fall and winter, fish summer and spring
