Not only do you need a GOOD hookset(eveyone can vary here ), which I set it very hard. You need to always maintain pressure on the fish. If the fish is trying to come out of the water to jump, put your rod tip down in the water, while maintaining tension constantly. Boy it does make for some great action, and pictures when the fish jumps, but that's the most likely time the fish will be able to throw the hook. So as much fun as it is, it isn't the best way to boat a bass.
