My idea is get a craw colored jig, with a craw trailer, add come craw scent, and drag it across the bottom, making a mud trail, and it will look very natural.

I will try fishing Jigs whenever I can.
Ine heard of people using Baby Brush Hogs as trailers, they trim the top part of some and thead it one like anyother tailer, They said with all the tails and arms it make it a bigger bait and more vibration

Im using one as a trailer, but I cut the top part off, and took off the curly tails, and now it looks like a crawdads pincers.

how are you fishing it? pitching it to openings and letting it sit? if thats not working, try bouncing it off the bottom like a grub...

Jig bites are generally hard to tell, the fish pick it up very lightly, be sure to keep an eye on the line, and place a finger or two above the reel, holding the line to help feel the strike

thick and knarly...
Use braid, throw it in the thickest, knarliest stuff on the lake, slow down, then slow down some more. As you work it, visualize what you feel at the end of the braid. That helps with the patience it takes to work the bottom right, jig or worm.

The longer you fish a jig without a bite, the closer you are to catching fish.Yes, it sounds stupid, but if you stick with the jig to learn to catch fish with it, you will say dang, P N J was right. You have to learn when the jig is not working. You had better have a senko rigged up, or some other type of lure to fish the upper water colum along with the jig presentation to figure out what the fish want.If the fish are biting bottom retrieved lures, you will catch fish on the jig, providing you give it a chance to work before you switch lures. There are very few days that I couldn't catch a fish, it might not have been the winning pattern for the day, but its not very often that I don't catch a fish switching between a jig and a senko rig to figure out what is best for the day. P N J

Rattles? I use them. Trailers? ALWAYS! Most of the time I match the color to the jig. In warmer water the bottom half of a brush hog is a great trailer, and in muddy water a frog like a horny toad makes a great trailer. JB is spot on with the retrieves. You can also swim them-just chunk and wind. White seems to work best for this technique. I throw bigger jigs on braid and finesse on fluorocarbon. Also, I prefer bullet head jigs over round heads-they come through cover better IMO. And I threw one for probably 10 years without a bite. Now I always have one tied on.
