Yeah, last time I saw it was at the Ferg Theatre on campus. Watched War and Peace with Audrey Hepburn last night. I'm a bit of a movie snob.

Well, actually...THIS.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDlkA...eature=related This are movements from Georg (no "e") Frederick Handel's "Music For The Royal Fireworks", written in the 1700's to celebrate The Treaty of Aix-La-Chappelle, which ended yet another war 'tween England and France. It was "premiered" at Green Park on a soft summer's eve, to be accompanied by a massive fireworks display. Well, as luck would have it, ALL the fireworks went off at once, with several minutes of music left to be played. The crowd (King and Court included,) that had crossed over London Bridge to attend the event went stampeding back across the bridge but Handel, hard-headed old German that he was (though an English subject,) would not release the musicians, who were seated in the hot spot, so to speak. He kept conducting and they played on to the end, after which they fled and spent the rest of the evening buttering (In those days there was no aloe vera, at least not in England.) each other and muttering threats against old Handel. My favorite movement begins at 5 minutes in, BTW, and I once played the entire work as part of a workshop recording project and privileged to be selected from among a raft of college trumpeters. Note that these players are using original or replica instruments of the Baroque Period. The Hautbois (French for "high wood", we call 'em Oboes) and Bassoons have few or no keys, just finger stops. The Trumpets and Horns have no valves. It was all done by the lips, breath control, and the use of one little finger stop (hole) in the tubing...Wow! I've played a few Baroque Trumpet performances and used to own one. What a difference. Luckily for the 60-plus members of the group I played with, we used modern instruments. In spite of that, we trumpeters were nearly DOA after the last notes sounded. For those that have stuck with this, you can find the first movement (Overture) in the menu on the right as you listen and watch. There ARE a few semi-hotties in the group. Well, you asked! L6 |

Today I listened to Exile on Main Street by a obscure band from the 1960s called The Rolling Stones.

I've got my beetles playlist set for tomorrow to be followed by nirvana and maybe some sublime depending on how I feel after lunch . It's been a rough couple of days so my listening choices might lean more towards the dark heavy and fast but we'll see .
