Zook, just another instance in which PnJ is trying to catch you in # of posts. He's always pulling up old threads for no reason at all. Just so he can get another post.......
PnJ Got it. Color is part of the equation and may not be as important to the fish as to the fisherman using the bait. I'm looking at it from a sales point of view. Are fishermen using a wide variety of colors or chasing the "color of the week"? I posted not to long ago that I spent a little time with Jerry Lohr talking about crankbaits and he told me a story about throwing a unpainted balsa crankbait and embarrassing someone who said color was the most important thing about baits. Jerry said the problem with selling an unpainted bait is that no one would buy it from him. |

Knowbody mentioned using pork chunks as trailers. Especially in the winter the jig falls slower and can enable a sluggish fish to strike.

Very good point Bassman.
3d, I am a ghost from Sir Isaacs past....a figment of misinformation ... A fig Newton..........Lmao. I do not care about post numbers.Once I figure out a new user name, I will be switching again. 3d, I think you are chocked full of knowledge, but you only let little bits and peices trickle out here and there to fall unnoticed as we screen your posts for information we may find valuable. |

I'll stick to a black n blue jig n pig and a watermelon tube all year on one of my rods...funny how no one ever fishes a blk/blue tube around here, when the jnp is killer.

Back when that post was made I made a statement and I will say it again. I have done testes and color does matter. It may not matter as much as size or fall rate but color definately has its own qualities and it would be wise to think about what color your using .

Dirk,It's good to see you posting . As Lizards would say, " Any jig color is good, as long as it's green pumpkin " I know there must be something to color selection, I have seen it posted time and time again. I think confidece in a color is what makes it better. If you allow the jig to get bit, it will happen. If you lose confidence in the color, you won't fish the jig nearly as well as your not allowing it to happen.I ain't said it in a while. The longer you go without a single bite, the closer you are to catching all of them. JB, I too liek the black and blue jigs. As foro your line problem, may I suggest a better line... perhaps Stren. IMO, trilene mono is junk. Even the XL I got had more memory than my Stren.
Just a suggestion though. BB

Color is important obviously. Why it is important is the question, imo. For example i too like black/blue and green pumpkin, but if every jig that hits the water in your lake is that color, then you'd probably be better off changing to something else. I'm sure we've all had those days where we tie on some bait that we haven't thrown in years and all of sudden we start catchin' them...i think color is the same way.

I've always found it strange that very few jig colors actually look like the crawfish I've seen or caught. I've posted a few pics and see if you can match a color with the photos. The first one I found was amazingly similar to the Potomac Blue and/or Okachobee (I know that isn't spelled correctly) Paca Craws but the craws on the river don't look like them .
#1 Brown/Red ? #2 Green/Brown/Black ? #3 Gray/Green (this is the color crawfish I've seen the most) #4 Mix of several shades of brown #5 Potomac Blue - Paca Craw PnJ - I've secretly inserted a key tidbit in the information I just posted. I wonder who'll pick up on it first? Last edited by 3dkicker; 01-17-08 at 02:34 PM. |

those blue ones have been in some ones live well/bait tank the live release formula turns them blue. if kept a while the chemical actually turns them white.
i'll stick with my green pumkin colored paca or the watermelon/greenpumkin paca.. smoke/blue also seems to work well here.. zooker

3D, Not only did I think you knew something you aren't telling us.I also know that you knew exactly what I was looking for in my ideal color scheme, after you posted those pictures. What craws you have seen the most is what I see here in my area too. Not alot of people look at real craw colors, because blending in with the bottom colors works easily too. P N J
Reaction innovations makes a sweet beaver in magic craw swirl that is really close to craws in my areas color as well. |

PnJ - I've tried to get that combo done with KidLizard on the Mini Craw and Muscle Craw chunks. Now they are going to a hand poured vs injection system and they may be able to do them for me. If I can put that skirt together for you and add the trailers I may just have something for the serious jig guys this spring.
And lets keep this me knowing stuff quiet....someone may be listening. |

Been workin on All Terrain to get the Grassmaster Jigs but it's been tough. I might not get them in time for the show. I haven't done much of anything on the skirt you asked about. Only found one of the three strand colors you're interested in but haven't looked real hard. Got some jigs coming in from KidLizard. Also Gerkin Jigs has been sold to R&R Custom Baits and will be sold at the Richmond show at my booth . And I have one (1/2 oz) tied on my new Loomis Mossyback with the Black/Blue Swirl Minicraw Chunk trailer and custom Black/Blue skirt for the show.
Don't think I have any more jig news. |

This a trick question????? I feel like I'm being set up or something.
I really don't know. With the cost of tungston weights as they are they'd be some real 'spensive baits. They'd probably come with some sort of insurance policy against loss. Tru-Tungston has some jig heads (shakey heads). Run a google search and let us know what you find. |
