Great little combo, cheap too. That shimano looks about like a stradic, but 100+ bucks cheaper. You picked a winner IMO.

Thanks, I was more curios if the reel was any good, I have the same exact rod but for my biatcaster( i posted a link to that combo closer to the bigining of the thread) I really like the rod thats why I chose to get another one.
Ive always liked Shimano spinning reels. And I really like Diawa Baitcasters

the way i flip if i want to reach just a slightly farther distance is let line out about the length of the rod(7'6")then pull off another length whatever i need to reach the target.i use a pendulum type flip.when the bait hits the water i pull off line to allow it to sink straight down.
this is where the reel comes in.i use either a megaforce or tri force Z with the flippin switch loaded with 50 or 65 lb PP. IMO only,in certain cases the reel is more important than the rod..in some cases i don't think the rod is that important. examples:flippin and pitchin...reel is more important jigs and cranks...rod is more important. this is just my opinion, don't want to poke a stick in anyone's cage...lmao

i was trying to make 2 points..dang even uncle lizard is cofused.. ok lizzy ifin you all remember. you had a medium crank bait rigged on that high end rod/reel combo that you all let me try out when we fished togather on high rock..i was pointing out that even a great rod/reel/ combo -which it is - is a waste when you have braided line, and try to fish a crankbait with it..
#2 i do alot of pitching under docks. a smooth reel with a good drag and a great braking system is needed. to keep the massive backlashes at bay.. now that i done did draw ya a picture think you can figure it out all by yer lil old self?? zooker

I put my money in the rods and the johnny morris has been good to me so for, Ive herd they are made by pfuleger (never could spell that word) Sure would like to try out one of the new flugger's but I know if I liked it I would start doing a change out so gonna stay where I am unless I start having trouble.

pnj,
i agree, once you get the momentum of pitching just as quietly and picking apart targets, who needs to flip and use the other arm ? i like working in tight and get the pendulum going on pitching, with very little splash |

Maybe i am backwards. I have always spent the most money on my reels. With rods, usually, it takes me a while to get one with a good feel and I don't really spend too much on them. Reels - I believe that i have way overspent.

hmm the current issue i am totaly lost in. I think the reel is more important... how are you supposed to have a nice presentation and land a fish without a good reel? rods are very important but i think you can get away with a cheap one... my avocet (20 bucks) was fine for a while unil the ferrule busted. that was my dad's fault though, he handles everything so roughly. he puts my rods under like 30 pounds of stuff on a clutered up shelf. As to ugly stiks- have one, can't say im pleased. my avocet had much better sensitivity. cheaper, and weaker but you dont need something srong as an ugly stik. i will be using it for surf fishing.

if the techniuce you are using requires sensitivity then the rod is more important , but if your doing something like using spinnerbaits or topwater or something like that then the reel is more important IMO

e right, it is my responsibility. which is why i had them in a nice safe corner. perfectly fine there. I've told my dad many times not to touch my fishign stuff but he throws away anything small, and chucks anything else into a random part. i try to take care of them and when i put em somewhere safe he puts em in the dangerzone. like in the car he kept telling me to move my rods to the side (under a 50 pound suitcase), and told me nothing would happen even though it was bent like i was landing a 40 pound catfish.

Just go wiht Fenwick for your rod choices LOL, gets rid of the rod equation, right Zook?
For reels, Mitchell, Shimano,Quantum, Daiwa are all good, find your favorite.

I'm sure I can outfish most without a reel at all in CERTAIN unique situations, and "flippin" a typical drainage pond or golf course lake in the pre-dawn would be that situation. Good question, partly because there are no definite cut and dried answers and partly because it almost got some arguing and cussing going.

I personally put way more money into the reel than the rod, however I look at rods more carefully as far as handle style and length, and then look carefully at the rods stengths and flexiblity.
