give it a few months, we should see an Al Gore and/or Michael Moore movie about how big oil wants us to drill our beaches and cover them with derricks that will be making oil spills like this every few months...
They got what they wanted when they voted: change. Now they see it was not the good kind of change. Hopefully Palin (we can hope ![]() |

It sucks. If it hits the marshes, bays, estuaries we are screwed. If this goes south and hits the Florida bay or Tampa that's water moving oil inland. Everything down here is connected one way or another. This could completely devastate the fresh and salt water in Florida. Im not leaving the other states out of this, I just know more about my state than the others.

Hoseholder, I think as a worst case scenario that is possible, but its my gut feeling that the oil has been moving slowly enough that it probably will take a little longer for the oil to get into tampa bay. I live less than 100 miles I reckon from the pipe, and its taken all this time for it to get into mobile bay (its now in the bay). Yesterday I did smell the strong stench of oil.
I also am maintaining a hope, backed by precedent, that this thing will clean up quicker than the 20 year disaster they are currently predicting. In the 70s I think there was a worse spill off mexico that was pretty much forgotten over the years. The heat, the storms, the current might be our best ally. Once they get the thing stopped, a hurricane might be the best thing we could have. |

That worries me when you mention a hurricane being a good thing. Sort of puts perspective on how serious this is. We're praying for you guys WTL. Quicker than expected clean up or not, this is something that will have an impact on you folks for a long time to come.
