I have never had much luck either. have caught a small bass on a mini spinnerbait by strike king but nothing other than that. have been throwing one this year with a crawfish trailer on it and still nothing. I am going to keep trying it but definitely not a lot as it is a complete waste of time for me.

I suspect that those who are having trouble are fishing them in open water.
Where I live there are Northern Pike, Musky, Walleye, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. The spinnerbait is the great all around weapon. Toothy critters don't bite it off because 99% of the time their teeth are on the wire shaft. My technique is to throw the bait right to the waters edge. What I'm saying is, sometimes, I land on the sand! Spinnerbaits are very snagless - weedless, so you can throw into really nasty looking places. Be brave, cast to the rough stuff, then just crank them back. If you want to give the rod a couple of quick tugs on the retrieve, so the bait darts ahead then stops, you will increase your hook-up rate on followers. Garry2rs |
