In the upper threads I explained about many years ago trying many variations.......long lips pull it under and it won't run right.
The cordell does better than any plug we tested and we spent hours under water looking and listening to rattles. The rattle trap does not work well. The cordell, (used to be bomber ratl R) works perfect. As I said, tuning is the key, it may take a few minutes but worth the time.

I just tried out both sizes that I made. The action is really cool. I just threw a few casts out just to see the action and then the rain came so I couldn't fish it for long. I was able to mess with the wire bends to make it run just right - straight up and down with no twist and it pops right up to the surface once I start reeling it in.
Side note: I was able to adjust my baitcaster and it is wonderful. I could cast the bait about 30 to 50 yards will no backlash. The reel stopped completely once the bait hit the water. I then switched to the heavier lure and was able to make the proper adjustments and have the same results. Woohoo. |

Double blade will not lift as well.
Cool looking bait but I think throwing it with the cordell on it would be hard to do. If you could shorten the bottom arm and add triple wings......

I'll tell you one of my favorites was the older style riveted blade....tough as nails.
I have one rigged using one of those and it could be 15 years old........beat up, bent and squeeks like crazy but man does that thing bring them up. I have had to straighten the wire a few times after big fish and almost wore holes in the sides of the cordell where the hooks have rubbed. Re-painted cordell (bomber) at least once........solid white with big red eyes.

The pics look great and I'm delighted with the positive performance reports.
My aim, however, is to present the lipless or billed crank at varying depths, using the blades to "wake 'em up". Let's say there's a grass bed at, oh, maybe five feet. The sun is out, it's hot, and the bass are not all that wired about going far from the grass. I'm hoping that the ability to swim a lure right off the top of the greenery after "alerting" the bass that somethin's goin' on, will produce strikes. Now, the length of the fluoro leader will deter mine the depth range that can be employed to "tic" the grass, but a leader of any given length will be able to offer a variable-depth retrieve, depending on the speed of the retrieve and whether a lipless or billed crank is appended thereto. This approach of mine is, I admit, more complicated but I do SO love to tinker and experiment I do plan to try such "hybrids" using a double, or "side by side", set of blades, in that they will make a louder, or at least different, racket and will do much to assure proper running. Don't be too reluctant to try using one of the 18" shaft Boo-Yah buZZZZZZZZZbaits as a starting point. This will offer greater separation between the blades and lure without using the fluoro leader. Yep, people have been fishing for a few thousand years, but you have found some secret way of doing it. Yep, it is so. Yep, you also own the Brooklyn Bridge on the side, but that's a secret also.

Are you addressing me in particular or all those who posted with innovative ideas and hopes? Maybe you intended your thread-enhancing post as a shot at me; Maybe you didn't. In any event, I'm too "Army Strong" to be affected by it. Re the Brooklyn Bridge; Nope, don't own it. Do I wish I did? Sure! Carry on. L6 |

I don't think people have perfectly unique ideas with fishing. It usually has been done in the past. It is just that most of the average Joes out there fishing tend to stick to what is offered in the stores. When people manipulate lures to their liking and have not seen it around, then they like to think that they have a secret lure. More times than not, someone else has done the same thing. No one is trying to claim rights to anything here. I think it is great that people share the ideas they have come across. If I were to modify or create a bait that works very well, I would share with others. If I came across a public fishing hole with hogs that practically jump in your boat that very few people knew about, you better believe that I would be keeping that one to myself.
I don't think people have "secret" lures. I think that people have modified or new lures that the majority do not know about yet. |

I don't mind sharing.
One lure or idea is not going to catch all the fish anyway. I hope someone catches a big one on the bait above.

It will work if it's tuned ok.
It needs to jump on top pretty quick and run straight. Both of these can be adjusted by bending the top blade wire. Bend wire down more to make it surface quicker and left to right to make it run straight.. I never have to worry about left or right tracking because most of the time the wire is straight anyway and the lures split ring attached to the wire is very forgiving. Confidence and repetition are the keys I think in using this bait.........keep it going.... in and around structure and there will be one try to take it from you....... Oh, it's a little heavier so watch your cast especially trees..........

Take the skirt off and put a plastic swimbait on the hook. That may work better and you won't have to cut off the wire/hook connection thereby keeping the strength of the original design and construction. |

Another mod....slide the buzzblade forward on the shaft and draw a knife blade across the bearing head of the rivet at a couple of different angles....then turn the knife over and draw it across the edge of the buzzblade near the wire also at a couple of angles.....a separate stroke for each angle....two or three is plenty.....will make the blade squeal against the rivet when you mash down the rivet tube on the wire to freeze it in place. In short, score both surfaces that rub together when the blade moves and freeze the rivet in place with mashing.

I am still looking for and trying to "invent" the perfect weedless tube. i have tried everything on the market and although some are weedless, they just do not drop the same way as a tube on a jighead with the eye on top of the tube.
Good thing I have become addicted to crankbaits . . . someday, perhaps someday, I will be able to call myself a devout crankbaiter. |
